The Frog Boys: Korea’s Unsolved Murder Case | True Crime

This incident happened back in March 26th 1991 in the Daegu, South Korea.Involving 5 elementary school students named Woo Cheol-won, Jo Ho-yeon, Kim Young-gyu, Park Chan-in and Kim Jong-sik, aged between 9 and 13 years old.It is also known that there was sixth child that was supposed to go with them but he actually insisted that he didn’t eat breakfast so he went back and will joined them later on.

March 26th was actually a public holiday as it was election day and school was off so the boys decided to go the nearby stream in the mountains to look salamander eggs .So they got their cans ,walking sticks for their adventure.Since the stream and mountains where nearby the village the boys live so it was not that difficult for their parents to send them.

Hours went by but the boys did not return home that’s when the parents got really concerned and reported the police.Police initially thought that there were either runaway or they got lost in the mountains.Now the runaway story didn’t really made sense because they were elementary school kids. And also the lost in the mountain theory did not made sense because the boys knew the area very well.

This case receive major TV attention , that even the president of South Korea back then ordered massive manhunt by the police and the military to find them it was actually reported that over 300,000 military and police officers were involved in this case.They searched the mountain areas and where the boys could have possibly been over 500 times and there was no evidence found like the boys just vanished.

There was many prank calls and false information was given to the police that gave the parents false hope that the children's were alive.Parents did everything they could ,some parents even quit their jobs in order to search their kids full-time.

Despite their efforts years went by without any evidence. On September 26th 2002, 11 years after the boys disappear, an anonymous was searching in the woods and he said that he saw human like bones scattered throughout along with children clothing.The remains of the boys where finally discovered near where they were last claim to be this is crazy because 300,000 people plus their parents were searching this area 500 times and they found 11 years later.

 At first the police thought that they died form hypothermia or possibly got lost and might have died.Also it was reported that it was not that cold that day, and even if boys were feeling that cold which suggest the hypothermia claim then why did not boys returned back home? As boys where very familiar with the area.There was one odd thing that was , the boys clothes were found in knots like someone tied them together which means boys could have been naked or striped when they died.

After the thorough autopsy it was found blunt force trauma of the skulls by the possible metal subject.Two of the boys had bullet wounds in their skull.

The knots on the clothes were special knots which made the police question that the suspect could be involved in industrial work. One of the boys were found with the trousers flipped over his shoulders and the sleeves tied together, when the knots where untied they found empty cartilages and unused bullets.But the police were clueless of what might have happened to the boys.In 2006 that statue of Limitation was expired but the people are searching for answers.

Theories claimed by people

There are couple of theories that are out, there are some people that say a group leapers may have killed the boys following the old legend that says children’s liver cure illnesses.The second theory that comes out most that people believe there’s actually a military firing range that’s very close to the where they were and by accident the boys could have got hit and to cover up they had to kill everyone but the police and the military say that they was no shooting practice that was schedule on that day due to the holiday.There was one clue aka a witness was actually a child and the day the boys went missing the child says he heard a gunshot and then followed by a scream than a silence because of this theory the parents really pleaded to the police to look in to this military base but they found odd that the police would not look into this military base.

It’s been such a long time that it’s hard to find any more evidences out there.The case thus remains unsolved……
